2008 ALL STAR PROGRAMS
GEORGIA SELECTED TO HOST 12U 60 or 12U 70 SOUTHEAST REGIONAL IN 2008
At the Babe Ruth Southeast Region meeting in October, the state of Georgia was selected to host either the Southeast Regional 12U 60 or 12U 70 Baseball tournament to be held in July, 2008. The specific 12U tournament as well as the host league and site for the tournament will be named by March 1st.

IN-PARK ALL STARS and CAL RIPKEN/BABE RUTH TOURNAMENT TEAMS
Each Spring season, Ocee Park sponsors 2 all-star programs: one is a single day In-Park All Star program that features an all star game for each league except for Tee Ball and the other is the Out of Park All Star program commonly referred to as the Tournament Teams. Each of these programs has a different criteria for player and manager selection. While the In-Park All Star program is a single day event held entirely at Ocee Park at the end of the regular season, the Tournament Team program begins in May and culminates with play at the district, state, region, or World Series level based on team performance. Download and read the detailed All Star program overview for more information on the various All Star and Select programs and the criteria used to select the various teams. Also, read below for more general information and the schedules for each program.

IN-PARK ALL STAR DAY - SATURDAY, MAY 17th
The Spring 2008 In-Park All Star Day will be Saturday, May 17th, at Ocee Park. This is always a fun filled day for players, parents, and other spectators. This year, we will feature All Star games in the Farm, A, AA, AAA, Majors American, Majors National, Junior, and Senior leagues in baseball. We will also feature All Star games in AA, Majors In-Park (AAA), Majors NGFA, and Senior league softball. Also, the Farm softball league will feature its traditional 8-Year Old graduating player game as a way of recognizing the players that will be moving to the player pitch AA league in 2009. Due to interleague end of season tournaments, certain leagues such as Senior (baseball), Majors NGFA (softball) and Senior (softball) will play their All Star games on a different day.

Selection to the In-Park All Star team is handled differently depending on the age of the players in the league. For all leagues with 9-year old players and older, the players vote to select the representatives from their team. For all leagues with 8-year old players and younger, team managers and the league commissioners work together to select the most deserving players from each team. Each participant in an All Star game will keep their All Star team jersey as a momento of their participation in this special event.

The tentative All Star Day schedule of events is posted below (subject to change).

CAL RIPKEN/BABE RUTH TOURNAMENTS FOR SUMMER 2008
Ocee Park will again in 2008 select baseball and softball tournament teams to participate in the summer Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth baseball and softball tournaments. The exact age groups for participation will depend on player availability in each age group. The All Star program overview document at the top of this page answers many of the general questions regarding the age groups for participation and the selection processes used for the teams.

The Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth program is growing in the state of Georgia but at this time does not have sufficient teams at the local level to support District competition. As such, most age group teams enter competition at the State or Regional level of play. For those parents that wish to plan ahead in the event their child may be selected to a summer tournament team, here is some general schedule information regarding the summer tournaments:

Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth tournament teams do not begin play at any level prior to July 1st
In general, District tournaments (if necessary) begin around July 7th, State tournaments begin around July 14th, and Southeast Regional tournaments begin July 20th or after. This schedule may vary from year to year but is a reasonable guideline for planning purposes
Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth World Series play, in those age groups that conduct World Series, takes places in the first half of August
Parents should keep in mind that Ocee Park tournament teams will be selected in the May time frame at the end of the regular season and that tournament teams will begin practices as early as June 1st at the discretion of the Team Manager. Tournaments will be played in July with the exact date depending on the initial level of play in that age group as well as whether or not a team advances to the next level
If a team participates in a State, Regional, or World Series tournament, there is additional expense and travel required for the team and of course the families of the players. Parents should be aware that Ocee Park summer tournament teams are completely self-funded and that no monies from the general fund are used for tournament team expenses

The schedule for Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth District and State tournaments for Georgia in baseball and softball will be available in the April time frame. The schedule for each of the Southeast Regional tournaments and their locations are provided in the document below:
