2006 ALL STAR PROGRAMS
FINAL SEASON OF LITTLE LEAGUE PARTICIPATION
Ocee Park completed its final season as a Little League affiliate in 2006
sending teams to the summer tournament trail in all age groups in baseball and softball. Baseball
teams were in action against District 2 competition while the softball teams played in the state
tournament in Athens (Bogart). Read below for more information on each of the 2006 All Star teams.
2006 District 2 Tournament Teams
Ocee Park Sponsoring 12 Baseball and 3 Softball District 2 Teams
In early 2006, Georgia Little League District 9 was merged with District 2. Leagues
from District 9 including Ben Hill, Buckhead, Murphey Candler, Ocee Park, and Sandy Springs joined with
East Marietta, Milford, and Smyrna Little Leagues to form the new 8-league District 2. This summer,
Ocee Park will sponsor 12 tournament teams in baseball and 3 teams in softball. In baseball, there are
2 teams in each of the 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 age groups and one team each in the Junior (13-14) and
Senior (14-16) age groups. In softball, Ocee Park is sponsoring a team in each of the 10, 11, and
12 year old age groups. All baseball teams will compete in District 2 tournaments and the district
winners will advance to a state tournament in certain but not all age groups. In softball, Ocee Park
is the only league in District 2 meaning all 3 teams advance directly to the state tournaments in
their respective age groups.

8YO Blue and Red baseball Teams Announced
On May 27th, Ocee Park Little League was proud to announce the following
selections to the Blue and Red squads in the 8YO (7/8 year old) division. The 8YO tournament is
being held at Smyrna (Chuck Camp Park) from June 10 to June 17.
OCEE PARK 8YO TEAMS OUTSTANDING IN POOL PLAY
Ocee Park Blue DEFEATED IN SEMIFINALS by Murphey Candler
The Ocee Park Blue and Red 8YO tournament teams
both played great baseball in the pool play round. The Blue team was undefeated
going 3-0 in pool play defeating Ocee Red 11-5, Ben Hill Blue 5-2, and
Smyrna Red 12-2. Only the mercy rule prevented the Smyrna game
from getting more out of hand. Apparently, the only weak part of
the Ocee Blue squad is the inability of the coaching staff to
win a coin toss for home team relegating Ocee Blue to the
visitor dugout for all 3 victories. After advancing from pool
play, Ocee Blue faced Ben Hill Red in the quarterfinals. In
perhaps their best overall game so far in the tournament, the
Blue team beat Ben Hill 13-3 in another mercy rule contest.
Advancing to the semifinals, the Blue team faced their toughest
competition in a contest with Murphey Candler Gold. The MC Gold
team took an early 8-1 lead but Ocee Blue stormed back in the
final inning to close the gap to 8-7 but MC Gold was able to
hold on and advance to the finals. Congratulations to the Ocee
Blue team and the coaching staff led by Chuck Barron for an
outstanding tournament performance.
2006 Ocee Park 8YO Blue Tournament Team
Ocee Park Red Team Goes 1-2 in Pool Play
The Ocee Park Red team went 1-2 in pool play losing to
Ocee Blue 11-5 and defeating Ben Hill Blue 7-6. The Red team lost a
heartbreaker to Smyrna Red 10-9 which would have advanced them out of
pool play and eliminated Smyrna from the tournament.
Congratulations to the Ocee Red team and to Mike Sims and his
coaching staff for their outstanding representation of the Ocee
Park program in the 8YO tournament.
9YO Blue and Red baseball Teams Announced
On June 3rd, Ocee Park Little League was proud to announce the following
selections to the Blue and Red squads in the 9YO (9 year old) division. The 9YO tournament is

Ocee Park 9YO Teams Defeated in Semifinals
The District 2 9YO tournament began
Saturday, June 17, with both the Ocee
Park Blue and Red teams winning impressively in their opening games of

Candler Blue 12-7. On Sunday, Ocee Blue defeated Murphey
Candler Blue 10-7 in an exciting game and Ocee Red
beat Milford 12-1. On Wednesday, Ocee Blue and Ocee
Red met in a battle of the undefeated teams to see who
would claim the #1 seed from Pool B. Ocee Blue took the
honors 13-9 in a great game but both teams advanced to
the semifinals to each face a team from Buckhead in an
all Ocee Park-Buckhead showdown. On Thursday night, Ocee
Red was defeated 8-2 by Buckhead Red and Ocee Blue was
defeated by Buckhead Blue 4-1. For the tournament, Ocee
Blue was 3-1 and Ocee Red was 2-2. Congratulations to

and although playing well throughout the tournament was not able
to advance out of pool play. The Ocee Red team, playing in the
opposite 4-team pool, went 1-2 in pool play but was able to

Buckhead prevailed 4-1. Buckhead and East Marietta advanced to
the championship game.

Ocee Park 12YO Blue Advances to Semis
The District 2 Little League tournament began on
Saturday, July 8, with some excellent baseball action in both
pools. Ocee Red defeated Milford on Saturday 7-5 in an
exciting game that saw several lead changes. A tough
East Marietta team defeated Ocee Red on Sunday. Ocee
Blue was also in action on Saturday losing a tough
contest to East Marietta in one of the most exciting
games of the tournament. Down 4-2 in the 6th inning,
Ocee Blue rallied to tie the game on a Jimmy Meyer home
run but East Marietta bounced back in the bottom of the
6th to win 5-4. On Sunday, Ocee Blue defeated Milford.
With Ocee Blue and Red are both 1-1 in Pool B play, they
faced each other in a Thursday showdown to see which team
would advance to the semifinals of the District 2 Little
League tournament. In an exciting game with several lead
changes, Ocee Blue pulled away from the Red squad in the
latter innings to take a 10-4 hard fought victory. The Blue
squad advanced to the tournament semifinals to face the
talented team from Buckhead. The game was close for
several innings before Buckhead pulled away for a 10-0 victory.

pitched the team to the brink of victory with Claire
King securing the win with a solid inning of relief in
the top of the 6th inning. On Monday, the 10YO team
completed Pool B play with a lopsided 21-4 victory over
Rockmart-Polk County. Scoring early and often, the
offense saw to it that the 10YO pitchers only had to pitch
the minimum 4 innings before the mercy rule went into effect.
Claire King, Nicole Peters, and Kylie Aiken combined to
hold Rockmart-Polk County to 1 run. The 10YO team
advanced from Pool B play undefeated to face Columbus
Pioneer in the semifinals on Thursday night. In a very
close and exciting game, Pioneer tied the game 1-1 at
the halfway point before adding 2 more runs in the
bottom of the 5th inning to take a 3-1 lead. Ocee Park
was unable to rally in the top of the 6th leaving
Pioneer to play Oconee County for the state championship
on Friday evening in the 10YO tournament. Pioneer defeated
