SELECT PROGRAM REGISTRATION FOR 2008 HAS CLOSED (12/31)
Registration for participation in the 2008 Select Program baseball or softball tryouts closed promptly at 5pm on December 31st. All players registered for Select Program tryouts should read below for more information regarding the date, time, and location of their tryout session. Only players that are pre-registered for the program are eligible to tryout for the Select program. Contact the Select program coordinator for baseball or softball if you have questions.

SELECT BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PROGRAMS FOR 2008
Ocee Park will once again offer its Select Program for various age groups in baseball and softball for the 2008 season. Tryouts for the 9, 10, 11, and 12 year old Select Baseball teams are expected to take place in January and the season will run from January through November (2008). Select Softball team offerings are expected in the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U (tentative) and possibly 16U age groups and tryouts will be conducted in late January or early February. The Select softball season will run from January (2008) through November (2008). The Select Program is an alternative to travel baseball and softball and players on the Select program must also play in the recreational program. Only those players that competed in the Spring 2007 season at Ocee Park or are registered for the Spring 2008 program are eligible to tryout for the 2008 Select program (players in the lottery or on a wait list are not eligible). All players interested in trying out for one of the Select teams MUST REGISTER in advance. Select baseball and softball registration is currently open and will remain open until the end of the calendar year (12/31/07).

SELECT PROGRAM BASEBALL & SOFTBALL MANAGERS WANTED
Anyone interested in managing a Select baseball or softball team for the 2008 season should contact Keith Siegfried (baseball) or Rob Latzsch (softball). Candidates must have prior experience in managing a team in the Ocee Park program and must also be certified under the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth ASEP Coaches Certification Program.

SELECT PROGRAM TEAMS IN BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
Continuing with the 2008 season, Ocee Park will again offer a Select Program consisting of teams in both baseball and softball. The Select Program will be integrated with our recreational program and will not be a standalone travel team program. The purpose of the program is to provide a more competitive playing environment that does not involve the rigors and expense of a traditional travel program.

For baseball, teams will be offered in the 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-year old age groups. The 9-, 10-, and 11- year old teams will play under the name Ocee Stars in 2008. In 2009, the 12-year old Select team will play under the name Ocee Stars as well. If the Stars name sounds familiar, it should since the Ocee Stars travel teams have played out of Ocee Park for many years achieving a high level of success against some of the best baseball competition in the state and the nation. Continuing this year, the Ocee Stars teams for 9-, 10-, and 11-year old players will play as part of Ocee Park Athletic Association and this process will culminate in 2009 with the 12-year old Select team. Select team players will participate in the Ocee Park Spring recreation program as well as the semi-travel or select program and be eligible for but not guaranteed a spot on the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth League tournament team for their regular season leagues.

The Select Baseball Program will be headed by Keith Siegfried, a member of the Board of Directors. Keith will recommend baseball team managers and coaches to the Board for approval and those managers will be responsible for finalizing their teams based on a standardized tryout process that will be used by all age group teams. Rob Latzsch will serve as the Select Softball Coordinator and will be responsible for the day to day operations of the softball component of the select program. Rob will work closely with Keith to achieve consistency between the baseball and softball programs and both programs will remain under the oversight of the OPAA Board of Directors.
